Guitar
chores were handled by four able-bodied individuals living
and playing here in Southern California. Don Guito
is a superb veteran guitarist who has toured most everywhere
playing most everything. He has perfect pitch. His wife
and I secretly believe he likes tuning the guitar as much
as playing it. Ron Evans is a terrific bluesmith,
bringing a wonderful rich smoothness to Full Moon At
Half Price. He is also an Emmy winning ace engineer.
Grant Geissman is simply one of the best jazz guitarists
today. He put the swing in Under My Blue Moon.
I have under-paid Michael Cuneo for 20 years, and
yet we're still friends. He is a fantastic guitarist,
who has played on many chart hits. He is a successful
composer who is busy doing film, TV, and advertising work.
I can't overstate his importance on this recording.
It wouldn't seem right to me to record something without
the involvement of David Nelson. I've worked with
him longer than we'd both be comfortable admitting. Although
he is presently pursuing amateur drum player status, he
remains one of the most musical people I know. Adding
the perfect touch to As Love Would Have You is
percussionist Ed Zajac. Ed is good with anything
hit with a stick, a busy session singer, and my pal.
Bill Churchville is a top session trumpet player in
Los Angeles, we met on the day of the session, he plays
great. Brian Scanlon is my favorite saxophone player,
if I could play sax, I'd like to sound like him. Brian
will play anything thrown at him with grace and soul.
He's the guy. Tollack Ollestad is the best harmonica
player I know. He may be the best singer and keyboardist
as well, but presently I'm only owning up to his blues
harp skills. He put the coolest blue wash on the songs
he played on. You should hear it.
Something special happens when you take the charming voice
of Rexanne Evans and multi-track it a few times.
It becomes an angelic sheen of rarified air. Witness it
in the bridge of When I Fall For You. Gina Loring
added just the right element of soul to the background
vocals on It's Just Talk. Some set of vocal chords,
this one. My wife Sharon has the loudest finger-snaps
on the planet, perfect for grooving or keeping me in line.
She grooves on Under My Blue Moon.
Thanks again to all.
